Kim and Tootsie and the kids have just hosted a mini amazing race in their neighbourhood and I went to chat and sit around the pool. I met Steve, Frank’s brother, who I painted at the school concert. He sat with his son on his lap while I started this painting. As usual everyone moved around but I was able to get this far. Steve and his family are immigrating to New Zealand soon so I gave them this painting as a memory of a last pleasant lunch with their friends.
This is painted on Arches Hot Pressed and is 280 x 360mm.

Here is a painting from a photo I took of my friend Marius and his wife Charlotte on a walk up Helderberg. Marius and I worked on an IT project together many years ago in one of the large oil companies. Now he lives in Ann Arbor Michigan and was out visiting family and friends. He has such an interesting accent, American Jaapie.
This is on Arches Hot Pressed and is 280 x 180 mm.

I have spent a few days now doing some of the projects that have been crying out for attention. Today I completed putting a new top on a table I had made long ago. And that was enough. The wind had dropped today and I decided my soul needed watercolour.
This is 180x280mm and is on 185gm Arches cold pressed.

Here comes the second cut. This time I am getting smart and heck of technical!!! I did this last night after sending a proposal off to a client from the other world. I was yawning away but just wanted to get this going. I decided to use a cool blue for the sky – hem hem – Notice how the sky goes back and the sea comes forward. Golly – it really does! And I also used staining pigments like Windsor blue so the sky and the sea are not so grainy – neither here nor there cause I like grainy but there you are. And I made the shadows on the blocks a bit darker AND I put in the cast shadows – so lets see how this develops.
