I would like to do a series of paintings on the passion of Christ. I am not sure what will come of my whole plan but I want to share my preparation with my blog friends.
So here is the first – The betrayal in the garden:
They are 190x280mm.

On Saturday I did not want to surf as I am nursing a cracked rib (from surfing). So we all went for a swim and then Aura took a walk up the beach while Ethan and his mate went to play on the Supertube. So I had an hour.
I found a place near this group of people chatting.

My resolve sometimes fails me. I lose heart. Last week I went through to Kalk Bay one afternoon to pay my gallery for framing. I had planned to sit and paint somewhere but got to the harbour as the fishing boats were returning. I took out my camera to take some photos but alas the batteries were flat. Not a problem. I had more recharged. mmm – not one held any charge. OK I thought – lets take some photos with my cell phone – but that soon filled out the memory card.
My friends on the Violet Glen came in loaded with snoek but and I stood and watched as they offloaded.
AND SO…
Eventually I reluctantly took out a little sketch-book and did these sketches. I was not going to post them – but feel like I should.

A couple of weeks ago I submitted my seven paintings for the South African Society of Artists merit exhibition. Some were from a little while ago and some were a result of the work I did over the December holiday period (after the DIY interlude).
This is what I submitted:
Framed work:

The “Violet Glen” returning to Kalk Bay harbour to offload their catch.

Trek Fishermen waiting on Smitswinkelbaai beach

Pipe beach on a rainy day

Ethan doing an Ollie #2
Yeah – Ethan doing an Ollie -
unframed (mounted work)

Painting the road-signs in Kalk Bay harbour

Table Mountain from the Pipe Beach in the evening.
Well I did not sell a painting which of course was disappointing but not devastating. It was just so good to be exhibiting with the group.

Well the year is hurtling ahead. For the past few weeks I have been focusing on consulting. I intend to post regularly on my consulting blog and this requires me to write. Often. And this is not easy. Anycase I started a posting on Friday night after visiting Daphne GrayGrant’s website for some tips. If any of you need help with writing skills I can recommend this port of call. (note the picturesque speech – ‘port of call’ – ahem aaaahhhem) - you may also notice that I have replaced “My intention..” with “I intend..” – getting rid of sloppy ‘tion’ nouns converted from nice clean verbs. OK – move on – it just feels good to be improving in this area.
