Loved your story. Love your painting more. Beautiful fresh, crisp colors. Brave of you to accept rides and beds from strangers. But look at all the wonderful people you met, and the great story you have to tell and now you can even go back and paint more of these wonderful paintings.

Thanks K – I like that – in fact, when I was wavering about staying, Basie said “If I was stuck in your area, you would take me in wouldn’t you?” And we would. It was all matter of fact and at the same time helpful. What is interesting about the painting is that in the composition I tried to squeeze in the broad view of the scene as well as the impressive height of the peak. So in effect I shortened the x axis and not the y. And this was how it looked to me sitting there on the road. I want to do it again the way it looks from the photos.

Its a good story hey? Ag they were so nice – it was a great privilege really to be able to join them. And now I have people I know there. The lady who took me into town is the sister at Hondeklipbaai on the coast and comes home for weekends in Garies. She was very chatty and told me all the nicknames of people. I was a bit strung out but even so enjoyed the ride. Then she brought me some coffee as a worked on the sump.
Well I will have to go back. (o:

Ja – wat maak daie donner daar?? Sout van die aarde! it is all very refreshing really
We were talking about different groups of people and Basie said “we must learn to give each other space” so I said “yes we should understand each other”. So he said “No – not even, just give space”.
Prieska! – I hope you go back often. One day I would love to paddle down the Orange from Douglas to the sea, doing paintings along the way.
