A spring evening at The Pipe. Painted on 185gm Arches Cold Pressed – 280x190mm.
This evening I went down to see if there were any waves at The Pipe. Actually there was quite a nice wave but I really really wanted to paint. This had nothing to do with the icy North West wind. heh heh – mmm…
Here is the painting I did. A slightly newer view and one I would like to do again.
This is on 300 gm Arches Rough – a half sheet – 380 x 560mm
I have just attended the wedding of Warren and Pamela. They are a friendly couple in our church who have been dating for what seems like a long time. Warren sometimes surfs at the Pipe so I thought he would like a painting.
So yesterday I bought a couple of sheets of Arches 300gm rough. This is a half sheet (560x380mm)
Last year, someone in our municipality had a rush of blood to the brain and decided that The Pipe needed a walkway to the beach. So they got one of their friends – no I mean – they put the job out to tender and the contractor got busy.
Yesterday I attended a breakfast talk in the morning and did these sketches of the guys sitting around me:

Once I settled down I got some good likenesses.
I had another long and enlivening chat at the pipe on Friday and had a chance to do this painting of the folks on the beach before having a quick goof and going home. That is a word from my school days – “hey guys, lets go for a goof” (a swim).
This is Rian and Ivor chatting at The Pipe.
This is 280x180mm on 85gm Arches Cold Pressed.
Last week at this time I was driving around Meadowridge, to find the venue for a watercolour demo. The group was the Constantiaberg Art Society and I had offered to do the demo. And what a friendly group of people they were. Thank you so much all of you for the warm welcome you gave me. I have not been painting much this year, as my lack of posting here attests and I must say I felt a little rusty. But I decided to put this to the group and suggested that I would find a photo on my lap-top and paint from that, using my outdoor kit. ”Lets all pretend we are down at The Pipe”.
So here is my first piece. I guess if I had been feeling more confident I would have done a single painting but allowed myself this start:
this was on 300gm Arches 370×280. There is some fun stuff going on in the sky but overall mmm. Ja well no fine!
On Saturday I did not want to surf as I am nursing a cracked rib (from surfing). So we all went for a swim and then Aura took a walk up the beach while Ethan and his mate went to play on the Supertube. So I had an hour.
I found a place near this group of people chatting.
I had a surf this morning and we all went down again this afternoon. The sea was quite messy, although the guys were out. The rest of my family went for a walk down the beach and I decided to sit on the dune at the entrance to the beach to do a painting. As I arrived Henrique, the surf coach, was there so I asked him if he would like to star in a watercolour. And he would. So here he is.

And he sat so nicely that I gave him the painting.
